How Do I Apply?

The Tertiary Education Commission limits the number of places available in our full-time courses. We encourage you to apply as early as possible. Applications for the following year will open on the 1st August and close on the 15th December OR when the course is full. We will accept people on a first-come, first-served basis. If the course is full, you can choose to be on the waitlist.

Please follow this process to apply:

Note: The entry age into a Praxis course is 18.

1. Use the APPLICATION FORM on the Praxis website OR contact us (see details below) for alternative support.

2. The next step is an interview (these will start in September). Before the interview can commence, we will need your three things. You can submit this as part of your application, email it to us or bring it to your interview.

  • a. The completed Application Form, including the names and contact details of two referees. A character reference and someone who has seen you work or study. Immediate family is not suitable.

  • b. ID (we require proof of identity and address)

  • c. Confirmed agency placement. An Agency Letter of Support will be required for the interview. This is the organisation that you will do your practical placement with. The letter should confirm that they are prepared to support you during your training with Praxis. This will mean that Certificate and Year 1 Diploma students will need two young people that they can mentor from Term 2. Year 2 Diploma students will need two groups of young people that they can run programmes with for the duration of the year

3. We will check your references before we meet.

4. You are welcome to bring whānau or a support person to your interview. Your agency rep will also need to attend the interview.

5. The Vulnerable Children’s Act (2014) requires us to check your police record to be accepted. You will be asked about any convictions in the interview (this will be followed up with a police vetting form).

6. We will aim to let you know within a month (from the date of your interview) if you have been accepted for the course (this will depend on the number of places available).

7. Your Offer of Study Letter will also explain the enrolment requirements and date. It will also allow you to start the Student Loans and Allowances application process. We suggest you get onto this ASAP.

8. Once you have confirmed that you want to take up the Offer of Study AND we have your completed Enrolment Form, your place on the course is confirmed. It is not confirmed until this point and pending the return of your police vetting form.

9. Orientation is the final step, we will have an orientation event for students in your area before course gets under way. This is an important opportunity for you to meet other people and get any final course information.
